When I was 14 years old, a few days before my first cyclocross National Championships, my appendix burst. Thanks to my high athletic pain tolerance, it had gone 1 week undiagnosed during which time I was told by multiple doctors it was just the flu, but I could barely eat or drink and lost over 20lbs. Severe infection had set in during that time and over the next 2 months I was in and out of hospital, couldn't go to school and suffered complications from the surgery such as a partially obstructed bowel. There were times when I thought the pain would never end. I would look myself in the mirror and only see how pale and weak I was and all the muscle I had lost. Once everything was resolved, the first thing I needed to do was get on my bike. Gradually, I came back to form, but the biggest issues I am still battling with Today and trying to resolve are extreme bloatedness and pain at times (lovely when it happens before or during a race...) and changes in dietary sensitivities. These don't seem like huge issues, but being a high level athlete has taught me that I need to dig and search for ways to have my body and mind at 110% strength and healthiness!!

I am driven by the need for speed and the exhilaration I feel when I come across the finish line with my arms in the air. I love riding my bike, and I absolutely adore winning. I was born a competitive person and cycling is my outlet to focus that competitiveness into a bigger goal. An Olympic Gold Medal in the Omnium on the track is what my sights are set on. Once I get there, I will raise the bar again. 2 Gold medals or a Gold in another discipline. I can and will succeed because I totally believe in myself and my ability to do whatever it takes to stand on the top of the podium, smiling uncontrollably, proudly representing my country and supporters.

As I mentioned above, I am on a mission to overcome the complications leftover from my burst appendix. This funding will help me with the costs of seeing my dietitians and specialists whom I've been working with to overcome the issues. It will also help to relieve a bit of the pressure of buying the right food, especially in the countries I travel to for racing where food prices can be a lot higher than back home! Thanks to Astra Athletica, my body will be ultra stylish in the coolest clothes and at 110% healthiness come race day!! :)
